This weekend you can get drunk AND help the refugees.
Our friend Moe Aljaff over at Brooms & Hatches won the Bacardi Legacy Nordic final with his Carousel cocktail. This weekend he shares the great drink with the whole city of Oslo (and Bergen) as lots of bars are joining him in serving up his recipe. And the best of all… all the proceeds are going towards helping the refugee children coming to Norway these days get some great experiences through games, music, fun and smiles. Moe himself is a refugee from Iraq and the Carousel cocktail is inspired by his first good memory after fleeing through Europe for three years. A tivoli in Sweden, with its lights, music and smells, still brings a smile to his face and the taste of caramelized popcorn is captured in the drink.
So if you’re in Oslo (or Bergen) tonight or tomorrow (29. and 30. jan) stop by one of the following bars to enjoy as many carousel cocktails as possible: The Thief, Vaskeriet, Pigalle, Torggata Botaniske, Fuglen, Bettola, Bar Babylon, Brooms & Hatchets, Barfly, Laundromat and Tea Lounge.
The more you drink, the more you help.
And if you’re stuck at home you can try to mix the drink yourselves or just donate some money to Flyktninghjelpen.
5 cl Bacardi Carta Oro
3 cl dulce de leche*
3 cl lemon juice
1 cl PX Sherry
2 bar spoons banana liqouer
1 pinch of refined salt
Shake all the ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake well and double strain into a coupette.
*To make dulce de leche at home you need a box of sweetend condensated milk. Fill a pot full of water and bring to a boil. Put the box in so it is covered with water. Let it simmer for at least 3 hours so the milk thickends. Let cool completely before opening.
